"I was apprehensive about the value that this membership would bring to my company. However I quickly learned that you most definitely can get out as much if not more than what you put into it. After a relatively short while, we were able to make multiple first tier contacts and we have been able to develop these into very promising prospects. In addition, we just signed our first contract with a corporate member, CON AGRA, through an NMSDC/SCMBDC event. Thompson Family Farms Web Site"

About SCMBDC

Southern California Minority Business Development Council (SCMBDC) – formerly Southern California Regional Purchasing Councils – is the largest nonprofit minority business advocacy organization in the region, serving 1,300 minority business enterprises and 300 corporate members throughout 13 counties.

Our mission is to support and develop minority business enterprises to compete and succeed in the open market through three primary objectives:

  • To open the corporate purchasing and contracting door for minority business owners
  • To provide corporations with information on qualified minority suppliers, and
  • To enhance employment in the minority community through increased corporate purchases

Headquartered in Los Angeles, we are one of 39 regional councils in the National Minority Supplier Development Council (NMSDC). Our members receive extended outreach and access through NMSDC's more than 3,600 corporations and 15,000 minority businesses

Since the Los Angeles Chamber of Commerce and the Minority Enterprise Coalition of Los Angeles created SCMBDC nearly 30 years ago, corporate purchases with minority businesses have grown dramatically. According to the NMSDC, corporate purchases from minority vendors totaled $70 billion in 2002, up from $86 million in 1972. Similarly, SCMBDC corporate purchases from minority vendors in 2002 totaled $6.8 billion, up from $35 million in 1975.

Initially funded with federal government dollars, SCMBDC has been entirely supported by the private sector since 1980.
